In the year 2000, Chaim and Elisheva purchased a 209-acre parcel of uncultivated land between the south and middle forks of the Cosumnes River in the Shenandoah Valley of the Sierra Foothills. Vineyards are located in Pescara country, between the Adriatic Sea and Gran Sasso d'Italia massif, from lower altitude in Francaville al Mare and Citta' Sant'Angelo to go up on the hills of Spoltore, Pianella, Castiglione a Casauria and Loreto Aprutino. A Territory with a particular temperate microclimate and very different soils according to the altitudes from zero to 300 metersa.s.l. which contribute to the growing and maturation of the grapes. The harvest starts late and last about two months.

Giacomo Borgogno
The house of Borgogno still maintains today the same classic direction, in the best Langa tradition, for its wines, in particular Barolo, which comes from 13 hectares of estate vineyards, with fully nine of those dedicated to nebbiolo for Barolo (1 hectare at Cannubi, 4.5 in the Liste vineyard, and 3.5 at San Pietro). They still follow the path of lengthy, submerged cap macerations, even longer for the Barolo classico, and of long maturation in Slavonian oak botti before release. These practices allow Barolo Borgogno to develop a distinctive complexity and a staying power that enable even very old vintages, some of them still offered by the winery, to remain in perfect condition right to the present, demonstrating the longevity and rich nuances of this great wine.

Ghizzano is a small hillside hamlet situated at 650 feet above sea level in the northwestern part of the Tuscany, halfway between Florence and Pisa. We are in the Colline Pisane production zone, a group of hills to the southeast of Pisa. None of these undulating hills is higher than 650 feet, the landscape is a soft and gentle one, and the climate is mild, tempered by the sea breezes which protect the area from extreme temperatures and from spring frosts as well. The soil is a complex and interesting one: once upon a time, the zone was covered by the sea and the terrain is still rich in marine fossils. There is sand and clay, iron and other minerals.
